METALLISED FABRICS

Electromagnetic fields and radiofrequency signals are increasingly dense in today’s environments. To protect sensitive electronics, secure spaces and people, KGS DIAMOND has created a specialised range of metallised fabrics – including MetaFab® and KGS MEFFAB products – based on high-tensile polyester, aramid, copper mesh and non-woven substrates coated with conductive metals such as nickel or copper.

These materials combine excellent shielding performance with low weight, mechanical flexibility, air permeability and, in some variants, transparency to visible light. They can be cut, sewn, laminated or applied like wallpaper, making them suitable for both compact components and large-scale shielding solutions in aerospace, defence, infrastructure, industrial and consumer applications.

Advanced EMI/RFI Sielding at material level

MetaFab® and KGS metallised fabrics provide shielding effectiveness typically between 40 and 90 dB, attenuating EMF, EMI and RF signals directly at the material level – without power, software or bulky enclosures. This passive, stable behaviour helps protect devices, infrastructure and people in environments where electromagnetic exposure and interference are critical concerns.

Field-proven in demanding sectors

KGS metallised fabrics are used on naval vessels, in aircraft wiring systems, secure courtrooms and industrial installations. They help create floating Faraday cages, protect communication and navigation systems, and support secure architecture. The same technology is also integrated into consumer products such as Ferronato bags and wallets to block RFID skimming and reduce unwanted exposure.

Flexible, lightweight and easy to integrate

Built on woven, knitted and non-woven substrates, KGS metallised textiles are flexible, conformable and easy to handle. They can be cut like fabric, sewn, glued, laminated or installed as wall coverings. Low specific weight, mechanical flexibility and corrosion-resistant coatings make them suitable for both permanent installations and mobile or wearable solutions.

Engineered performance, backed by data

KGS provides detailed technical data on shielding levels, surface resistivity, temperature resistance and tolerated power density, based on methods equivalent to US-MIL-STD-285. Engineers can select constructions and mesh types that match their frequency ranges, environmental conditions and mechanical requirements, with options for customized laminations and mutli-layer systems on request.

Applications

KGS metallised fabrics address a wide spectrum of electromagnetic shielding needs. Typical applications include lining of shielded rooms and shelters, tribunal courtrooms and secure buildings; large-scale EMF reduction in minehunters and other naval vessels; shielding of aircraft wiring looms and electronic devices; and cable wrapping for industrial infrastructure.

They are also used in technical clothing and personal protective equipment, lifejackets and lifeboats, target systems and decoys, as well as advanced screen-printing and multi-colour flocking processes where conductivity, dimensional stability and non-clogging behaviour are essential. Whether the requirement is signal integrity, electromagnetic isolation or controlled conductivity in production, KGS provides materials tuned to the task.
