HARD COATINGS

Superhard coatings such as HVOF carbides and ceramic layers are essential for wear resistance and service life – but they are extremely challenging to grind and polish. Their hardness and brittleness can quickly destroy conventional abrasives, while tight tolerances and demanding surface requirements leave little margin for error.

Telum® and Flexis® metal-bond belts provide robust stock removal, while specialised strips and finer resin or nickel bonds enable smooth transition to superfinished surfaces on high-value coated parts.

Applications

KGS DIAMOND solutions for hard coatings are used in a variety of demanding applications. Typical examples include grinding and polishing HVOF-coated hydraulic rams, shock absorbers and piston rods, roll grinding on large coated cylinders in steel, paper and foil production, mud rotor finishing for downhole tools, and superfinishing of coated shafts and critical rotating components.
